GAMES
Over the last 20 years video games have been a huge part of are everyday life for both adults and for children, from the first ATARI to the next generation PS2 video games have made for a lot of enjoyment. In my essay I will discuss the evolution of the video game and the evolution of the console. From 1984 to 2002 games have changed the way we live for example in 1984 when the NES was put on market it sold about 250,000 consoles in its first year a great accomplishment it its day completely crushing its early competitor the ATARI by over 100,000 copies, today the PS2 on its first day sold over 250,000 copies a amazing feat which had the system in extreme demand for over a year and a half with the power of the PS2 and now the construction of the PS3 will the world change to fit the game or will the game become a way of life rather then a hobby.1981 gaming begins with the invention of the Atari the first console to ever be distributed to the public; a huge skepticism about the product came about New York Times 1981. “With the recent release of the ATARI I can’t help but to believe that the system will fall, I mean why buy an expensive system that can only play games when u can buy a commodor
Around 1990 Sega came to the scene, Sega a newcomer to the game industry created a 12 bit system with a built in game road rage, the original Sega wasn’t a real big hit, most people still held on to there Nintendo’s because of its huge popularity Sega scrambled to save the system but instead of saving the system they had this to say at the 1991 E3 expo. “since the slow growth of the Sega we here at Sega have been working very hard and from our customer feed back we introduce the Sega genesis a 16bitfuturistic system, and a new character Sonic the hedgehog” (Sukiao Namorika). From then to about 1992 Sega had finally beaten its biggest rival the NES, but all things must come to an end IN 1993 Nintendo introduced the Super Nintendo and the first console war broke out AT this time many gaming magazines started to come out, like Gamepro and Game informer, and the most popular at that time Nintendo Power. Sega and Nintendo matched punch for punch coming out with great games after great games often times maxing out there 16 bit capabilities. Over the next 10 years gaming consoles are coming online, and are going to be more then gaming consoles, some say your console will be able to control your microwave and toaster, connecting them to a massive network, of peoples equipment, limiting energy costs, and making your house connected to one remote control, these developments are still in the future but are very likely to happen, some say as soon as 2005. But price is always the big deal; expect to pay over 1,000 dollars for your next Playstation. e that does both word processing and video game
