There are some fathers today that are still sole breadwinner by choice. They are few and far between though. Most families have two incomes in our time. Which means that dad doesn’t just have to deal with the moral problems of his children, he has to deal with all of their problems as well as the house, and food. Families are building bigger houses that cost more money. To make that money both parents work more and dad gets to spend less time with the kids. The male role has changed drastically from that of the nuclear male. (Hamamoto) The male no longer has to be the sole provider of the family. The changing roles in male, female, and child’s life’s are tearing the nuclear family apart. More things are accepted in family life because of it. There are now same sex parents, and single parents. Families no longer have time to sit down and have dinner with each other, because everybody is so busy. Communication lines are broken with this absence of contact because of parent’s busy schedules, thus the increase with divorce, children having problems in school, and drug abuse. The nuclear family has been destroyed through the many new responsibilities and roles of parents and kids. The busier life gets the worse it will be. Less is expected out of the male, more is expected out of the female, and nobody knows what to expect from the kids. The only solution is to make more time for the family. Having a nuclear family is not important anymore, but spending time with one’s family is more important than ever.

The mother has always been the person that holds things together in a family. In many cases this is still true. There are mothers that still cook, clean, and darn socks while their kids are at school.
