There are very few things known about the early life of George Washington. Washington did not have such a great education as a child but still was able to grasp certain things. In a unanimous decision, George Washington was inaugurated on April 30, 1789 as the first president of the United States of America. Washington made some big decisions in his first year as president. Washington set up his executive departments in 1789. Those departments were the war department headed by Gen. Henry Knox, the treasury department that was headed by Alexander Hamilton, the department of state which was headed by Thomas Jefferson, and the postmaster general was Samuel Osgood.

In George’s younger years, his mother badly wanted George to enlist in the British Navy but he would not do it. In late 1753, Washington was sent to Fort Le Boeuf to assert Britain’s claim by the governor of Virginia Robert Dinwiddie. Washington then became known as “ resourceful and daring”(Douglas Southall Freeman, 237). Washington later led an expedition to guard a British fort in Pittsburgh. On May 28, 1754, Washington and his men ambushed a French regiment and killed nine men including the Commander of the regiment. The French and Indian war really turned Washington against Britain after they blamed the Virginians for the shortcoming of contractors. Washington feuded with higher- ranking officers in the British army until it ended.
