Families The average family size in Hungary is four. Hungary, like other former Communist countries in the region, suffers from a shortage of housing. The typical family of four in a large city often lives in a cramped two-bedroom apartment. Families in Hungary tend to form deep bonds with each other. Children rarely break contact with parents. In the countryside families are larger than in the city. Children are dealt with strictly to prepare them for hard work and discipline later in life.
