Once the men arrive in the town, they go straight to the Clutter household. The family is going about their normal everyday business when the men enter the town. The men go through the house and kill the family, Mr. Clutter, who was tied in the furnace room with his neck slit, Kenyon, who was tied to a couch in the basement and shot, while Nancy and Mrs. Clutter were tied down in their beds and shot.

The murders have stuck terror and wonder into many minds of the people who live in the community. Most people suspect that the murders are from the town, but don’t understand why someone would kill the Clutters because they were such nice people.

The event of the men killing the Clutter family was very logical to the killers. Perry and Dick had planned to rob the family, but when their plan failed, they had to take action so they wouldn’t be caught. This event isn’t logical to us because killing someone isn’t logical. Most people would have to be in a life or death situation to kill someone on purpose. These men were an exception. This is a brutal event because four peoples’ lives were taken for no reason. The family was at their home and hadn’t done anything to deserve to be killed.

Perry and Dick are able to leave town without being caught. They decide to go to Mexico City to enjoy theirselves and to take off time to relax. They write several bad checks to receive money, which eventually causes trouble for them. While they are in Mexico, they us all of their money, which forces them to return to America.
