A Day In MY LIFE

Do your homework, clean your room, set the table, take out the trash, be home by 9, all these things are common phrases heard in just about every home across the world. No kids like to hear these things being demanded by parents. Yet, when your younger you do it without question. Your parents say do something, you do it. Simply because they said so. That all changes within time. In the later teen years you feel grown up and independent. You don’t feel it necessary to have to take orders from you parents anymore. You break curfew, you lie about what homework you have and you do anything possible to get out of any unfair chores your parents have so kindly arranged for you to do. In the end what it comes down to is, you live in your parents house you live by their rules. For many they stay and rebel, and for a handful of others they leave. They decided that they don’t need their parents and they will be fine on their own. That’s what I thought too... But it didn’t take long for me to realize what the real world was really like.

I had wanted to leave home for years. I had been planning my escape from “hell” for years. I had spent so much time working out every detail, and I thought I had it perfect. When I first left home

I was scared. When I originally planned to leave home and face the world on my own, I never really thought I have to do it, alone. I realized I had no place to sleep. Seeing as I still went to school and had a job, I didn’t need a place to be until at least 12 when they locked the doors. I crashed at a few friends houses for a night at a time. Nothing was permanent though. None of their parents would allow it. I began working as many hours as I could. True I needed the money, but it had become my shelter from the rain. I didn’t have to worry about food yet. Being a waitress, I was allowed to have one meal a shift. A lot of my fellow employees knew my situation and took little convincing to give up their free meal. By the time I would get out of school at 1:30 I was famished. I hadn’t eaten since work the night before. So Monday through Friday I would literally run over to work and take advantage of the buffet that only lasted until 2 o'clock p.m. I would usually get there right before they threw out the leftovers. I use to thing eh leftover. Now leftovers were wonderful.

Finally I would make it to the corner market. Without fail there were the same guys sitting in front of the corner store. They would try looking up girls skirts and grabbing ladies ass’s as they passed. I would go in for a pack of cigarettes and get harassed. When I returned to the apartment, I opened up the box of rice and poured it in a frying pan on top of the stove. I looked down and there were little maggots crawling all through it. A scream of discuss escaped my mouth. I was completely and utterly appalled. What if I hadn’t looked down before I started cook. I finally calmed down. Sickened I grabbed the RiceARoni, pan and all, trying not to lose the little food I had in me and took it back to the store to get my money back. When I got there, three cop cars were parked out front, kicking out all the guys who usually just sit inside the store and smoke pot. It turns out the corner market sold drugs. I couldn’t believe it, I was in shock. It wasn’t the fact that drugs were around me. I had been around drugs all my life. I lived in a middle class town where no one knew what to do with Daddys money. They would frivolously spend money on expensive clothes and jewelry and whatever was left over they would spend on drugs. Whatever Expensive designer drug that was hot for that moment, they would spend their nights consuming. But this seemed different. Im not sure if this makes sense or not, but it seemed like the drugs back home had been classier. Is it possible for any drug to seem classy?

things were going as planned. Things looked as though they would go as planned. I decided to moved into my best friend Amandas’’ house. We had been friends for many years. We had gotten along fine all those years and barely ever fought. I didn’t think there would be any problems. Every night feel like a slumber party. We stayed up late at night confiding our secrets in each other and complaining about life. It helped me forget the problems that I was running away from. There were some small problems with living there concerning school but I had worked them all out. School was about a half hour away from her house so on occasion she would give me a ride and others I would take a cab. I started to get use to this new routine. Things were going alright but we had started to nit pick at each others every move. We began to constantly fight over things that were so petty. These things so unimportant and meaningless we let get between us, needless to say leaving me homeless.

The hours I had school and work were taken care of. But I couldn’t keep jumping from friend to friend I needed a more stable place to stay. I was talking to a close friend of mine. She told me how she was having problems at home and needed to just get out of there for awhile. She wasn’t leaving home just removing herself from the problem temporarily. We had no where t
