The American Revolution was mainly a political movement; however there were some social and economic factors. Much of this can be seen in movies such as The Patriot. This movie tells the story of a reluctant hero, Benjamin Martin, who enters the war after his family, becomes endangered by the British. Martin and his son take up arms against the British by leading a small militia into battle. Martin soon realizes that the only way to protect his family and freedom is to fight for a young nation’s liberty (The Patriot). This movie a positive insight to the war through the main character. Economics and society factored in the conflict, as well, with the hardness of the taxes and the settler’s need for a fair leader.

First of all, the conflict was partially economic because the colonies were full of natural resources and King George was interested in the money that he could get from them. The King and Parliament, in an effort to gain more money from the colonies, oppressed

North Vietnam was battling for ownership of South Vietnam, so that they would be a unified communist nation. To prevent the domino effect and the further spread of communism, the U.S. supported the Truman Doctrine and stood behind the South Vietnam.

The Great War had numerous causes that can all be linked together in a few key principals, the main one being the need for power; all causes are linked via the desire of countries to aspire to more power. The trigger is linked to this because the assassination was committed as a result of nationalist views of the terrorist group, which they wished to prevent further persecution of their nation and independence for more Slav countries. The rivalries were all linked to the nationalist ideology; that of France-Germany was mainly associated with the liberation of Alsace and Lorraine and the dispute over Morocco. The Britain-Germany rivalry was based on the imperialist views which is in itself was a sprout of nationalism; a desire to push one’s country further. The Russia-Austria Hungary is solely power based, as it is a feud over the control of the Balkans. That is not to say that just because nationalism is a big link between the causes that this ideology is to take full responsibility (Marix).

Vietnam was a struggle which is graphically depicted in movies such as The Green Berets, which was one of the first American films specifically about the Vietnam War. It also offered a pro-intervention perspective at the height of the conflict. Filmed along the conventions of a World War II action drama, a gung-ho colonel battles the vicious Viet Cong while protecting innocent civilians, befriending an orphaned boy, and reforming a liberal newspaperman\'s misguided political views (The Green). Full Metal Jacket offers a riveting look at military life during the Vietnam conflict. This film is broken down into two very different parts. The first half of the film focuses on the training of a squad of Marine grunts on Parris Island, and more specifically on the troubled relationship between the brutal drill sergeant and an oafish misfit who just happens to be a successful sharpshooter. The first half ends with a devastating, unforgettable scene, leading into the second half, which takes the grunts to Hue City, the climactic battle of the 1968 Tet Offensive and the turning point of the Vietnam War. The story is told through the eyes of Private Joker a cynical aspiring photojournalist who is soon forced to fight for his life and the lives of his fellow recruits. The sniper scene, which takes place amid bombed-out buildings, rather than in the jungles, serves as a microcosm for the Vietnam War. This film is an unrelenting, intelligent, and challenging illustration of war (Full Metal). This movie puts a negative twist to the war in that it was graphic seemed to focus on the American loss. Platoon is also a graphic illustration of the war as seen through a group of soldiers sent into the middle of the war which puts a negative twist to the war in that it seemed to be unorganized.

Kennedy and Diem, southern Vietnam’s leader, were both killed in 1963 and 1964. Johnson took control of the situation by increasing the amount of money and manpower put into Vietnam. Congress passed the Gulf of Tonkin Resolution, giving the president full military power. After Johnson dramatically escalated the amount of soldiers in Vietnam, The North Vietnamese mounted a surprise attack during the Vietnamese New Year, and this strike was called the Tet Offensive. It made America more aware of what they were up against, that the communists were capable of fierce, guerrilla warfare, unlike anything the Americans had ever fought before. Images of the terror and disarray reached back home, and the U.S. began to wonder how effective their involvement in Vietnam really was (Yancey).
