Jacqueline Lee Bouvier was born on July 28, 1929, in Southampton in New York. Jackie’s parents were John Vernon Bouvier III and his wife Janet Lee Bouvier ( www.isdesigners). John was a wealthy stockbroker, which put the Bouvier family at the top of society. Jackie’s mother Janet was a snob of society (www.thekennedy2). But that didn’t stand in Jackie’s way, she still made her young youth years as fun as possible.

As a child, her years were divided between New York City, East Hampton, and Long Island (www.isdesigners). These places were what Jackie called home. They were the places where she learned the hobbies she loved as a child. She even enjoyed them as an adult. Her favorite hobby was horseback riding. She also kept a nice routine of twice-a-week facials, comb-outs at Kenneth’s, shopping on Madison Avenue, and jogging in Central Park (Balfour 76). Jackie led a pleasing life. She had to deal with a lot of pain and suffering, but she still held her head up high and flashed a smile. Just weeks before Jackie died of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma on May 19, 1994, Jackie was quoted to have said, “ I have been through a lot and suffered a great deal. But I have had lots of happy moments as well. Every moment one lives is different from the other. The good, the bad, hardships, the joy, the tragedy, the love, and the happiness are all interwoven into one single, indescribable whole that is called life. You cannot separate the good from the bad. Jackie continued her education up to college. Jackie studied at Vassar College during her freshman and sophomore year. For her junior year Jackie moved to Paris to attend Sorbonne. Then for her year as a successful senior she came back to the United States to attend Georgetown Washington University. She would graduate there with a major in French Literature (www.isdesigner).

Who was Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy Onassis? She was a mother, a wife, a friend, First Lady to the United States of America, devoted editor, painter, and a member of the Art Society, along with so many other things. Jackie has touched our lives for so many different reasons. She gave America her shoulder to cry on that tragic day in Dallas. I admire her a great deal because she led the world through a time of sadness. Jackie didn’t let the words of other people invoke pain in her life. She suffered pain many times, but still somewhere deep inside she found that place that gave her a sense of pride. Jackie had every reason to be proud of herself and hold her head up high. She received a lot of criticism in her life when she made a decision people didn’t like. She still followed her heart though. That is what made her the person she was then and the person she is remembered as now. She had so much pride in herself and her children. Jackie didn’t let anyone make her decisions or choose the way she lived her life. She was a very classy woman. I believe that the words Ted Kennedy spoke at her funeral were absolutely and positively true. Jackie will forever be in our hearts. She was Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy Onassis, “Queen of Camelot’’.

On June 24, 1953 the engagement was officially announced. At an engagement party held at the Hyannisport golf Club, Jack slipped a twined square cut emerald and diamond on Jackie’s then bare finger (www.isdesigner). With a grin on her face the anticipated wedding date was set. Soon Jackie would proudly become Mrs. Kennedy.

In August of 1963 Jackie went into labor. She gave birth to premature Patrick. There was no hope for the little boy. The Kennedys suffered another death of a child. If that wasn’t enough, Jackie would suffer a greater loss in the months to come. On November 22, 1963 Jackie lost the love of her life. Jack was tragically assassinated in Dallas, Texas (www.isdesigners). Jackie had to learn to live with the pain in her life and move on.
