His presidential debate with Republican candidate Richard Nixon was the first televised debate in the U. S. Since Kennedy and his staff were very knowledgable of media, they employed all aspects of the media to make this candidatemore appealing. After that first debate, they televised the rest of them as well. Millions of people all over America watched these debates on television during their campaign. As was mentioned before, Kennedy won because of the popular vote. This probably had a lot to do with the debates that were televised because Kennedy was a very good public speaker. It also had a lot to do with his appearance. He was very relaxed as opposed to Nixon who was perspiring and seemed very uncomfortable. This obviously worked to his advantage in being elected president.
