Jeffery Dahmer
The city of Milwaukee was shocked and appalled when they heard that mutilated bodies, heads, and severed hands were being pulled from the apartment of a shy man named Jeffery Dahmer. When you hear this disturbing fact, you may ask yourself, who is Jeffery Dahmer? Jeffery Dahmer is in fact, one of the most horrific killers of the last century, as well as the most brutal murderer Milwaukee and Wisconsin had ever seen. After being discovered, all of the facts came together, and over the past several years, the events of Jeffery Dahmers childhood, victims, trial, prison time and death unfolded. On May 21, 1960 a small boy was born to a young couple named Joyce and Lionel Dahmer, they were happy with their son, but even early on, they knew that their son was very different from other children (Dahmer 31). Lionel, Jeffery Dahmers father writes about Jeffrey’s childhood in his book, A Fathers Story, he says that Jeffery seemed like a normal little boy for awhile, but even early on, some people had doubts about him. Jeffery showed an early interest in bones, dead animals and other morbid pastimes, such as he collected rodent bones and played with them. He also said that as Jeffrey’s childhood progressed, he grew darker and more recl
Jeffery Dahmer went to prison, where he was a model prisoner. He was allowed to eat with the other prisoners and was even given some janitorial work with some other inmates. But, this work would lead to his untimely demise. He was paired up to work with Jesse Anderson a white murderer, and Christopher Scarver, a black delusional schizophrenic who thought he was the Son of God. On the morning of November 28th, 1994 the guard left the three men alone to do their work. When he came back 20 minutes later, he found Dahmer dead with his head crushed in and Andersons fatally inured body nearby. A bloody broom handle lying nearby was the source of the murders, and thus, the end of the life of serial killer, Jeffery Dahmer (Online Jeffery). On February 14th, the most expensive trial in Milwaukee history came to an end. The jury came back with their verdict, none of them thought he had a mental disease. It was a unanimous guilty. He was charged with 12 counts of first-degree intentional homicide and habitual criminality or sexual assault and inciting a child for immoral purposes. He was sentenced to fifteen consecutive life terms, or 957 years in prison (Schwartz 269). During the trial, Dahmer read a four-page letter he had written to the victims families saying how sorry he was for killing the men, and that he hoped God would forgive him. He said that he knew the families would not, and that he deserved his punishment. Many witnesses came forward to testify about what they knew about Dahmer and his life in the apartment on North 25th street, about the smells and sounds and general lifestyle of the man who was their neighbor (Schwartz 191-192). Jeffery Dahmer was one of the most vicious killers Wisconsin has ever seen. His unmerciful, disgusting, and unemotional killings have left people shocked. His disturbing childhood and descent into madness during his teen years left many people blaming his parents for what he did. His victims were helpless and so was he when it came down to his going to prison and his own death. Whatever his reasons were for killing, we all know that while his victims have been put to rest, his legacy will continue to live on in horror for the residents of Milwaukee. Around the time of Dahmers 18th birthday, his parents who had been having marrage problems for years finally called it quits and got a divorce, which threw Dahmer farther into a depression he could not crawl out of (Dahmer 60). After graduation, Dahmer went to college for awhile, but he was kicked out because of failing grades and his alcoholism, so he left school and attempted several jobs, all of which he was eventually fired from. After several lost jobs, Jeffery finally went into the army because he badly wanted to make his father proud. However, Dahmers drinking lead to bizarre behavior in the army including several attacks on fellow soldiers (AP Dahmer). One of Dahmers roommates stated, “I knew that he would hurt me if he could get a hold of me when he was drunk. He would run after you like a wild man, like a crazy nut” (AP Dahmer). Because of his bizarre behavior and drinking, in March of 1981, Jeffery was discharged from the military. At this time he moved back to Miami Beach and started searching for more jobs (Bauman 221). No new bodies were identified over the next two days, however on July 28th they found pictures of a missing man named Richard Guerrero, age 25 in the Dahmer apartment. He had been missing since March of 1988, and even though his remains were never found in the apartment, Dahmer admitted to killing the heterosexual man (Bauman 140). On July 30th, they also identified David C. Thomas as one of the victims through pictures. Thomas, who was killed at age 23, was last seen on March 7, 1991, he was also a heterosexual, and because he did not fit Dahmers “type” very well, his entire body was disposed of (Bauman 159).
