Lacrosse

There are professional hockey players, professional football players, and professional soccer players. What do those statistics have in common: the sport lacrosse. During my speech I am going to inform you on the history, rules, and regulations of lacrosse.

Lacrosse is a mixture of three sports hockey, football, and soccer. It is considered the oldest sport in North America. It was rooted by the Native Americans to resolve conflicts among tribes. It started to evolve in the 1800s when French pioneers started playing. It finally was standardized in the late 1800s by a Canadian dentist. It grew so popular that college teams started forming in the early 1900s. And the first women’s team was started soon after that. Over the years the rules have changed dramatically, but lacrosse is still a sport played worldwide.

The regulations of lacrosse are very individual and unlike other sports. All lacrosse players must h

ave a Crosse. The Crosse is usually made of wood with a net pocket at the end. The length of the crosse varies for each player, but the offense usually carries the longest one. Like other sports, lacrosse needs a ball to score with. They use a solid rubber ball that is a little larger than the size of a tennis ball. Due to the aggressiveness of the sport, all players must wear a helmet that is equipped with a facemask. They must also wear a mouth guard, protective gloves, and shoulder pads.

The rules of lacrosse are not much different from the rules of soccer. There are 2 teams trying to get as many goals as possible. But unlike soccer, a team is made up of 10 players: a goalie, 3 defensemen, 3 midfielders, and 3 attackmen. The attack men’s responsibly is to score goals. A good attack man must have excellent stick work and be able to easily maneuver around the goal. The midfielder’s responsibility is to cover the entire field playing both offense
