Amelia Lanyer and Isabella Whitney, though very different in personalities and opinions, both attempt to augment the current standard of what living as a woman should be. Whitney, taking a more selfish and current argument, writes in a fashion that allows a voice to come across stating that there is more than what is given and that it is women’s rights to try and achieve it; that there is more than being a housewife and that no one or thing should prevent that from happening. Whitney, taking a risk, even attempts to promote her overall status by empowering people to by her writings. Lanyer, avoiding the selfish aspect, embeds her argument in the reasoning behind the persecution of women, and the hypocritical stand that men have taken from it. Lanyer uses logic to try and dispute the history of women’s positions, she demonstrates that men have no true reason to devalue women, and that in reality, they should be held high than men, based on the fact that men’s hands hold the blood of Christ, and no sin women have committed could compare to that. Both women stepping out of the normal to raise their voices to change the way of life, and reform the basis of what it is to be a woman and the logic behind it.
