Kurt Cobain

On February 20, 1967, Donald and Wendy Cobain gave birth to an American Icon. Kurt Cobain grew up in Aberdeen, Washington, right outside of Seattle. (Halperin 4). Kurt would change the entire world with the Seattle grunge movement (Halperin 4). Music and drugs were the life, and Kurt lived it to the fullest. At 8:40 am, on April 8, 1994, Kurt was found dead by a worker from a security firm (Halperin 3). The man many called the “the voice of a generation”, was dead at the age of 27. Many people had such a fascination with Kurt that they went into morning when they learned of his death (Halperin 134). Some even followed in his footsteps, with at least 68 teens taking their lives in copycat cases (Halperin 134). Police quickly declared Kurt’s death was a suicide; however, many disagree.

Tom Grant is one who strongly disagrees with the police (Halperin 109). Tom is a private investigator who previously worked for the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. Courtney Love, Kurt’s wife, hired Tom because she said she hadn’t heard form him since he left rehab in Marina Del Rey, California (Halperin 110). Not completely true, Courtney had a conversation with Michael Dewitt, the male nanny, and he told Courtn

So far there is no real conclusive evidence that Kurt’s death was murder. It is more the opinion of his fans, which is why the case has not been re-opened by the police. Grant still has one very strong point, the amount of heroin that was in Kurt’s system. Kurt had 1.52 mgs per liter of blood, of heroin in his system (Halperin 113). This means that Kurt injected 225 mgs of heroin that night, three times a lethal dose, even for a junkie. This means that Kurt was so strung out on heroin that he wouldn’t have even been able to lift a gun (Halperin 113). With the amount of heroin he took, he automatically would have become incapacitated. He could not have picked up a shotgun, and definitely would not have been able to pull the trigger (Halperin 113).

Another interesting fact that Grant notes is the suicide note is inaccurate. Kurt doesn’t mention killing himself until the last 4 lines of the note, and experts believe that portion doesn’t match Kurt’s writing. It does not even resemble the writing of the rest of the note. Many say the beginning of the letter is a note to his fans telling them he was leaving nirvana and quitting music. The note said, “I haven’t felt the
