Aristotle was a great speaker in politics and life and addresses a lot of issues in his book, the Politics. An issue that he talks upon briefly is women and their roles with the house and government. When you read you come to find out that the Greeks and non-Greeks have a different view on women. You also find out that women have no power in the politics and government and the only reason that they would run a household is if the male child are to young and there is something wrong with the husband. He also assumes that “self-evident that the male’s abilities are superior to the females” (I ii: 56).
Greeks and non-Greeks have a completely different view in the status of women and slaves. It is said that the Greeks have “distinguished between female and slave” (Iii: 57). They state that the women are more for the house and are a partnership of love and although the man is still in charge of the household, the women are not just working hard for the men and getting nothing out of it. All through out the teaches of Aristotle, you find out they women have no rule at all when it comes to the governing the land and politics that are going on. It states that “man is by nature a political animal” (Iii: 59). The reason they state that is because they feel like man is the only one that has even the since of mind of what is exactly need to govern or hold power. If the man was not able to take his duties, if there were a son, he would consider being a citizen and taking duty. For that son to take duty though he would have to be able to take care of his mother. That is a valid way of showing that even though the women might be wiser, because they are women; they are not aloud to take any control.
It was stated that the male’s ability are a lot greater than the females. The female’s role is to stay in the house and become the typical stereotype of a housewife. Although, the women are looked at as having no power, they are look at in a higher respect because they are the only ones who can bear a child. All of the Greeks hold women in a state
