Humana Incorporation was established in 1981 in Louisville, Kentucky as a single nursing home facility. Humana is one of the nation’s largest publicly traded health benefit companies. There are approximately 6.6 million medical members located primarily in eighteen states plus Puerto Rico. In Humana’s forty-two year history they have changed and seized opportunities to transform its business. (1) For example, July 7th, Humana announced that it had entered into partnerships with five medical organizations to operate thirteen centers in South Florida. Those five centers were: Miami Dade Health and Rehabilitation Center Incorporation, Qual-Care Incorporation, Primary Care Associates Incorporation, UniMed Incorporation, and Medical Care Consortium Incorporation.(2) Humana is also dedicated to improving the health and well being of communities throughout the USA and abroad. The foundation supports charitable organizations and institutions that promote education, health and human services, community development, and the arts.
