This story is told thru an omniscient point of view. The narrator of the story speaks in third person using pronouns such as “she” and “he”. For example in the first sentence of the story the narrator tells of Ann’s trip to the bakery “Saturday afternoon she drove to the bakery in the shopping center”. Another great example of establishing the point of view in this story is when Scotty is on his way to school on Monday morning “The birthday boy didn’t cry, but he didn’t have anything to say about it either”. The narrator has access to the consciousness of more than one character, and tells the story through the eyes of an outsider. The narrator’s presence is passive and unknown to the reader. This point of view is reliable due to the fact that the narrator does not take part in the story personally.
