The average surface air temperature has increased by about 0.6 degrees Celsius in the last century. A study of ten Canadian cities showed that, in the case of Montreal, heat-related deaths would rise from seventy to 240 to 1140 in an average summer in 2050. With global warming there will be in increase in the frequency and intensity of extreme weather events such as drought, floods and storms.

Global warming will cause vermin to spread to new suitable habitats, thus bringing diseases to afflict newly vulnerable human populations. An example is the Mosquitoborne malaria. The mosquito is mostly restricted to humid regions with an average temperature above 61 degrees and about forty percent of the world. Global warming in the range of six to ten degrees would increase malaria carrying mosquitoes to sixty percent of the world.

Many people believe they have the right solution to this problem and there is a huge range of solutions, with avoidance and adaptation as the extremes on the spectrum. Avoidance solutions are the ones that aim to end the greenhouse effect by reducing or stopping emissions of greenhouse gases.
