The legalization of marijuana has been widely debated in our country. We have had a war on drugs for a long period of time now. Many people have many different views about this subject. Both sides present fairly good arguments if you take a look at them both. I do not see our federal legislators supporting the legalization of this drug, and I agree with them totally!
While the debate continues, I have chosen to support those who oppose to the legalization of marijuana. For one, it has been proven to destroy brain cells. Taking a look at the other side, supporters of the legalization of this drug feel that if legalized, marijuana could be made safer to use. They contend that the government could regulate the manufacture of this drug much like that of pharmaceutical companies. Vendors would sell marijuana and the government could tax the sales in the same way that it taxes cigarettes. The marijuana would be produced according to government standards and packaged with a warning from the Surgeon General. With the government in control instead of people on the streets just makes it way safer to use.
