East Of Eden
Human nature is different for everyone. Human nature can be good or it can be very evil. Humans are the most twisted creatures on the planet. In the book East of Eden there are many themes and conflicts that can be discussed. One of the many subjects to be discussed is how Caleb is evil within but deep down does have the love of his father. In the book East of Eden there is a character named Caleb Trask. Caleb has a father named Adam and a mother who abandoned him and hid brother to go run a whore house in Monterey. Caleb, a man in the bible, is a man who made it to the promise lands. Ironically, in this book, Caleb is the brother who lived, the son who became successful, the guy who got the girl; basically he made it to his promise land. But there is a twist; Caleb isn’t the nicest of all guys. Adam, his father, favors his other son Aaron over Caleb. Aaron is a loving churchy boy and doesn’t have to do much to win his fathers love. Caleb, on the other hand, spends a lot of time and thought into how he is going to make his father proud. When his father asks “where is your brother,” he replies with that, indirectly saying he wants nothing to do with him. Deep down in his heart, he loves his brother and when he soon discovers he is the indirect cause of his brother’s death in the war, he feels horrible, wanting to lead a more moral life. Caleb had love for his brother; he loved his brother as he did himself. “You love your brother?” Caleb’s father Adam Trask asks, Caleb replies “ Yes I love Aaron, sometimes I hurt him for no reason, sometimes I just want to hurt him real bad, but I love him so much. I don’t want to hurt him, but sometimes I do.” It’s like he can not control what he does. But, in the book , Timsel, is used. It is a term in the bible that says “you may choose to overcome sin.” Choose being the key word, Caleb understands that he doesn’t have to be like his mom. He realizes that he can ch
