Immigration
For as long as I can remember there has always been the debate going on whether or not letting people migrate to the United States is good or bad. The debate is always packed with plenty of facts to support both sides of the argument, and with just enough proof to clarify nothing and keep the debate going. If immigration is so bad on the economy in one state than how is it good to help the next state? An in depth look at some immigration facts of past and present might help clear it all up. First of all, the history of immigration is an important point to look at when deciding what is good and bad for the country. Immigration rates have fluctuated dramatically over the years. At the turn of the century though there were nearly 1,000,000 newcomers to the United States. Then in 1940 the rate was at a low stage with only 100,000 immigrants coming into the country but it would not stay at this low point. At present day we are nearing back to the 1,000,000 point again. The average over the years has been about 200,000 to 300,000 immigrants into the country every year. These immigrants all have their own reason for leaving their own land and trying to pursue something in the United States. At the turn of th
Although many thought they were coming to have a greater life many immigrants in the early years didn’t get the life that they were looking for. Many movies years have shown immigrants coming to the U.S. packed in crates on crater ships, or in the hull of a ship, packed in for months while going across the ocean. They would travel without food, and without seeing the sun of day for the whole trip. They had no bathrooms and would be stuck in one position without moving while they took the trip. Many would die along the way, and others would receive diseases from the people that died. Even the people that made it into the country wouldn’t receive the life that they thought they would have if they made it into the country. Many of them owed money to the people that snuck them into country, because of this they would end up having to work for them in their “sweatshops” or whatever business that they had. Not only because they owed them money, but since they were illegal aliens, they would not be able to find a job somewhere else because they would have to give references which would show that they were not legal and might have to be sent back to the country where they came from. Because of this many people were lead to believe that immigration was leading to problems in the U.S. In some ways it was true because they were bring in diseases and were making the sweatshops run to easily with all the free labor that these people were getting from the immigrants. (Are American Extinct) e century there were many reasons for people to come to America. Many heard the tall tales of America having streets made of steel and the mountain ranges made of gold. They were coming thinking that they were going to get a free ride and all of their problems would be over if they could just make it to America. Then people started coming for the freedom. Most came for the r
