Morality In Adulthood

Morality is a hard subject to talk about because there are so many different views on the subject. There are many subjects that one group of people might find moral while others might find it immoral. Morality in adulthood has not been a subject that has a lot of research. most researcher concentrate on the moral development in children. Moral development in adulthood is an important topic. As a persons morals mature we should look at why we should be moral and how being moral effects our decisions.

Research on morality in adults is limited (Pratt et all., 1996). The research that has ben done suggest that little changes occur in adult from mid-life to age 75 (Pratt,Pratt, Diessner, Hunsberger, and Pancer, 1996). In one study with two groups one with an average age of 34 and the another group with an average age of 73 the researcher found little difference in the moral judgments in different situations (Pratt et all., 1996). although they dd notice that the younger group would tend look at the situations in a role taking method more than the older group (Pratt et all., 1996). In Pratt’s study They took a sample of 64 adults and split them in to two groups one with a average age of 69 and the other with an average age

The better we can understand how our morals change the better we can learn to help thoughs that need help.

He states that Your personality, your life experiences, and morality evolve in to your moral identity and from that come your responsibility judgment and motivation (Bergman, 2002). The reasons for being moral is that is because who you are (Bergman, 2002). We each have our own morals that we fallow (Bergman, 2002).

Now let look at how morals effect our judgment. Looking a social problems people rely heavily on their morals (Thoma & Rest, 1999). it is also shown that most people use a few issues and base there moral around that (Thoma & Rest, 1999). This studies also noted that moral judgm
