Throughout my life I have dealt with the problem of racism. Since I was a little boy I can remember how much more I was being watched than my white friends when we would go into stores. As a little boy I did not understand this, but as I grew I understood this and learned to hate it. While hating others for treating me like that, I was becoming no better. By looking down on them for them looking down on me, I was just feeding the flame of racism. I did not care; the only thing that mattered to me was hating them as much as they hated me because of my color. I have a black father and a white mother; you would think that this would in some ways lessen the effect of racism on my life, but to assume that would be wrong.
If you thought that my being biracial was the lesser of two evils in the struggle of racism, you would be wrong yet again. I have had to deal with both sides of racism. From the white perspective I have dealt with blacks calling me a white boy because of my light skin complexion. From the flip side I have been called a nigger and been looked upon as if I were less than a human being. In sports as an athlete you get praised by both sides , no matter if you
Our society is a failure because if we can’t coexist then how can we survive? When natural disasters happen we can be seen as the country that helps everyone, but on our news people die everyday from racism. Locking up another person because of their skin color and charging them falsely is a horror which could be compared to slavery. Slavery was the enslavement of a person and racism is the enslavement of us all. Think about it: we limit ourselves by racism. We can’t make as much money apart as we could make together. Businesses would blossom if they could cater to every race instead of looking upon the color of our skin and not the knowledge that we have. Today, we should be able to work in this world together and not separating each other.
If we as a people, not blacks or whites or any other race for that matter, but we as Americans don’t put the petty past time mistakes of our ancestors behind us, and move forward, then we are calling for the untimely demise of one of the greatest nations to ever arise. As Americans we have come together and overcome things such as great disasters and terrorists attacks, but we can’t stop the internal destruction of racism.
