Modern popular music is crammed into a typical front that consists of “Pop” or popular music, “R&B” Rhythm and Blues, Country, Rap, Hip-Hop, Rock, Punk, Alternative, and Nu-Metal. All these styles are played on the radio and get massive air time and record label support and are over exposed to the youth of America. There are eleven music programmed radio stations in the Dayton, Ohio area. Four of the stations play Rap, Hip-Hop, and R&B. Three stations play rock or classic rock and their sub-genres. Two stations play country music while the other 2 play classical and 80’s music.

There was then a composer by the name of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart who decided to use slight dissonance. A typical perfect forth became common to use a tri tone (A perfect forth raised a half step in pitch). He used fast melodic lines which made no since to some people. His chords structures were as high as the opera house roof itself. He single handedly wrote some of the most beautiful music the world has ever known.

Then we go through the original rock and roll, and Rhythm and Blues period of the late 40’s and early 50’s. Piano rock would be a better term for it because many of the musicians played with pianos rather than guitars, although they weren’t completely ignored. Guitars served a larger purpose a decade later when Jimmy Hendrix and other artists emerged and started a psychedelic rock period. In that time noises were used and musicians were heavy acid users that explains a lot of dissonance in their music. Solos were taken from the jazz genre and applied to “this new rock porn”. Which comes to a fusion point, which is a now new form of music.

Jimmy Hendrix then opened the floodgates for hard rockers to come through. Then in the 80’s metal rose with was nothing but fast picking and depressive lyrics from Metallica to Mega death they all portrayed the same image. The new bread of rockers used harder drugs and pushed the death rate in America sky high. That genre inspired grunge that was somehow metal’s cousin which then lead to modern alternative music.
