Napster
Many people in the music industry are presently fighting against the distribution of free music on the Internet. The main source for free music on the Internet is a program called Napster, which entitles users to exchange copyrighted music with other users of the program. The music industry complains that Napster has largely contributed to a lower demand for CDs, but most of the users of Napster think that the program is a great way to distribute music among their fellow music lovers. Many people inside the music industry are against Napster because they feel that, as a result, money will be lost because people will no longer buy the CDs. The two key figures in the lawsuit against Napster are Lars Ulrich, the drummer from the band Metallica, and Rapper Dr. Dre. Other artists such as the bands Limp Bizkit, The Offspring, and Public Enemy have come out in favor of Napster. So the question still stands: should Napster be shut down? I use Napster, and I think that it is a great program. It gives the public a chance to trade all genres of music with other users without spending an entire paycheck on music. Before I got to college I never really used Napster, but once I got to college, I decided I might as well get my hands
