My View On Offender Rehablitlitation

The idea of rehabilitation is to restore offenders to a constructive role in society. Many prisons in the United States, as well as juvenile detention centers attempt to contain the problem instead of offering any type of deterrence. To many citizens it does not matter if the individual is given a chance to become a functional member of society upon release. The only thing that matters are the punishment fits the crime. While, at the same time I do believe that punishment is a valid part of the criminal justice system, punishment by itself is not sufficient in many instances. The adult criminal system is evidence of the failure of when punishment is used by itself. Offender rehabilitation should begin with youthful offenders, so they may not become adult criminals.

It is my belief the goals of the juvenile court system should be to rehabilitate and develop the youthful offender, so they are able to integrate into society and become productive citizens. This is a way to change an individual into a more stable person. One form of rehabilitation an offender will participate in is substance abuse. This is because much of the reason for the increase in juvenile crime is because of the use of drugs. These types of boot camps will help the juvenile with their addiction. In addition, for offenders who have not yet achieved a high school diploma the camp will teach basic education. This will enable to youth to be able to get a GED, which is a general education diploma equivalent to a High

In conclusion, I believe, as many citizens that punishment should fit the crime. In addition, the severity of the crime should determine which program the youth is sentenced. I am also of the opinion that rehabilitation should start in the juvenile system. In addition, after care programs should be offered to every youth who is released. It is my thought that once an individual is in the adult system it is too late fo
