The book presents daily life as a soldier in World War One beautifully. It shows what a soldier during that time period thought about the war and just about life in general. It was probably chosen for the summer reading list because of its implications for the world. Nations can learn from this novel the consequences of war and why fighting is not the answer, it often just causes more problems and hostility because someone usually always loses.
