Violence in the Media

Does violence in media affect people?.
Violence is a common sight in media today whether it is seen on the television, Internet, or heard on the radio. Violence is all around society. It is what many people want to see. Some of these same people want to act out the violence they are witnessing. Yes, I believe that violence in media affects people. It affects how people think, act, and speak. Some of people's actions are more affected by others, but the fact is that it still affects people.
Violence affects how people think in that people may react to certain situations, in a violent manner, because of what they have seen or heard. If someone is watching a television show and he or she sees an actor react violently in a certain situation, then they might think and believe that a violent reaction is the way to go. They may think that since the TV person acted that way, so can they. This is especially true with children. Children have more of a tendency to mimic what they see and hear without forming their own opinion. Another example is if every time a person watches the news, they see minorities committing crimes and acting violently. Since this is what that person is seeing, they may start to think that all minorities commit crimes and act violently. This type of stereotyping is common in our society. .
Violence affects how people act in that if a person watches a television program where someone goes around beating people up, they may think this is the way to go. As a result of the violence they have seen saw, through the media, they will act the same way. Children also pertain to this idea in that they act the way those around them or those on television act. This is similar to the idea that children think certain ways based on what they see and hear. A prime example of this would be the wrestling programs. Some children watch wrestling and believe it is okay to perform the moves they see on television on other people.
