Nuture Our Human Behavior
One of the biggest controversial issues today is on the subject of nature vs. nurture, meaning whether or not behavior is based on nature or nurture. Nature is when behavior is based on genetics and nurture is when behavior is based on one’s environment. Imagine this, a teenage age boy growing up in a troubled neighborhood such as east Oakland, the boy receives bad grades and is constantly getting in trouble with the law until one day he commits murder. Will society base this boy’s lethal behavior on genetics meaning he was born to be a troubled boy and there was no way around that or will it be based on nurture meaning, since he grew up in a bad neighborhood that was known for violence and he hung around with other troubled kids and that is what triggered him to commit this crime? It would only make sense that the environment is what influenced this boy, rather than saying he was born a troubled child. People are very easily influenced today in this world especially children. An example of an incident where environment and influence changed a nation’s behavior and the way they thought in the world war. In 1939 through 1945 also known as the Holocaust, a man by the name of Adolf Hitler and his Third Reich of Nazi’s went into Europe and decided to corrupt all the minds of the German’s. Hitler brainwashed his people into believing they were superior to Jewish people. He gave the German’s an environment where they would have everything but in order to do that the Jew’s needed to be exterminated. The German’s were easily persuaded and Hitler had the power to murder a whole race also known as Genocide. Hitler nurtured the behavior by making them believe they would get everything they ever wanted their behavior was quick to change. There is no way those millions of German’s were born to be part of the Holocaust; the only reason why they were a part of it was because their environment influenced them. still matter. Hence, nurture is definitely a more reasonable explanation for behavior than genetics because humans are very easily influenced. Subsequently different environments, which allow people to learn and adapt, are just as important as nurturing each other’s behaviors. change the outcome of the person they would become and how they would interact with the people and world around them. An individual will decide or turn into the person they will want to develop into as an adult, with the influences by the way they were brought up, their surroundings and the moral values they were taught by their parents, family, mentors, and/or guardians and culture.
