Oprah Winfrey was born January 29,1954 in Kosciusko, Mississippi. Her parents Vernon and Vernita Winfrey separated. When she was just a little girl, Oprah went to live with her grandmother. While living with her grandmother, she learned to read and write at the age of three. When Oprah was ten her grandmother died causing her to move back with her mother who at the time was staying at a friends house. Oprah’s move with her mother came at a very rough time. Oprah said that her stay with her mother’s friend was very unpleasant. She experience discrimination and neglect.
