Baglady-Best Friend

“ Leisha?” I called out to the homeless woman with her back turned.

Immediately her head turned around, and she quizzically replied “Yes?”

At that moment my mind became clouded with emotions, I was shaking. I didn’t realize what I would say; I tensed up, my stomach was in pain.

I mean, me and Leisha weren’t the best of friends all the time, but it was weird, no fucked up even to seem someone I knew so personally in this shape.

While I stood there pondering all this information that flew in and out of my head, my friend turned bag lady stared with her lifeless eyes emptily into nothing.

I stuttered and replied to her, “It me, you’re old friend Susan, Remember?”

She shrugged me off and mumbled something inaudible under her breath. I could tell it was her, I could feel her presence. And although I haven’t seen her in years I could tell that under her terrible skin, and ragged clothes, and that utter displeas

I tapped her on the shoulder, and wanted to yell in all my frustration, but I kept it inside. Instead I gently asked her again “Do you remember me Leisha, it’s Susan?”

She followed me to my apartment and said nothing for the four block walk. This didn’t really bother me because I was just happy to have my friend back.

We walked up the flight of stairs into my cozy little apartment, I left the radiator on all day and the warmth was so inviting on this frigid January evening.

Yes I know it sounds far fetched, but she did look a lot like my old friend. I had greater things to worry about like how I was going to get this half crazed derelict woman to go away.
