Beach Balls And Religion
Beach Balls are round and they have stripes of color. If two people were standing opposite each other holding on to the same beach ball, one would see yellow and orange while the other would see blue and green. The first person holding the yellow and red side of the ball has never seen the other side and he assumes that the other side is the same color. Nothing that the blue and green sided guy can say can persuade the other guy that the ball could be a different color. This illustration shows how attitude and perception can alters how people see and interpret what they see and hear. Religion and science work the same way. Most humans are not open to interpretation and ideas. Richard Feynman wrote an essay on the relationship of Religion and Science. In his essay he struggles with the way religion is interpreted. In his essay he admits that he does not know all the answers, but he asks that one looks at the others ideas and leave room for reflection. Religion is an individual personal speculation. Perception is also an individual mechanism. Each individual sees the world differently. This is why no one religion can form to the masses. Trina was taught nothing of religion from her parents other than the basic morals. Trina went through many hardships before she was twenty and question religion in her time of need. Also through out Trina’s life she traveled and experienced many religions. As one might guess Trina’s personal faith vary a great deal from Tommy’s personal faith. This is because of perception. Their perceptions are based on what they have been exposed to. Feynman say that a young person agues not because they know everything but because the know nothing. Trina takes the Science and Religion aspect and tries to fit them together like a puzzle while Tommy divides the two with a wall. Perception develops with experience. One must never take anyone’s ideas as truths. If one finds that there perception does not produce a meaningful existence, they must gain experience to alter that perception. Perception is what one makes of it. A personal conviction is what one makes of it. A perception has the ability to “make us or break us”. Conviction is what humans strive for. Every human has an empty hole inside that they want to fill. The only stable way to fill that hole is trough a private faith.
