Carl Levin is a very well known politician in Michigan. Currently, his popularity rating is high, with 56 percent of the population holding a positive view towards him, and 19 percent with a negative view. He is currently serving his fifth term as United States Senator. This could be for a number of reasons. First of all, he has a very good history. He was born in 1934 in Detroit, and went on to go to Central High School there. He then graduated from Swarthmore College with honors, and continued to Harvard Law School, where he graduated from in 1959. After graduating, he practiced law in Michigan while also teaching. In 1964 he moved up to being appointed as an assistant attorney general of Michigan, and the first general counsel fo

r the Michigan Civil Rights Commission. He continued to move up and be elected to the Detroit City Council in 1969, and then became its president with the most votes ever won in the city. He first reached his position as United States Senator in 1978, where he has remained until today.

To further prove his integrity, Levin can not be considered a greedy politician. He has never accepted rewards or gifts, and in 1995 he tried to persuade the Senate ban gifts and paid trips. In 2001, the Council on Government Ethics Laws awarded Levin with their highest honor to reward him for his leadership in this area.

In my opinion, I believe that regardless of the competition, Carl Levin still would have won the 2002 Senate Election. Throughout his five terms as United States Senator, and in all of the previous positions that he has held, he has proved that he will do what he has to to fix problems. In addition, by working towards honorable issues, and by not accepting gifts or trips, he has shown that he is the closest that we can get to an ethical politician. His countless awards and honors have only proven this further. Assuming that all of my sources were accurate, I believe that Carl Levin really cares about Michigan, and the entire country. By actually making progress and showing accomplishment after accomplishment, Levin has proved that he does not make empty promises.

Whether Levin’s popularity is because of his background or because of his achievements is unsure. So far, Levin has accomplished a great deal. Right now, he is the ranking Democrat on the Senate Armed Services Committee, where he supports our national defense, and is also an effective
