Is education the key to success? Many may think it is, but others may differ. I the book A Painted House, John Grisham gives’ a primary example of how educated are more successful then those uneducated. In the novel A Painted House, there was not a big focus on education at all. The history of the Chandler family was their men spent more time in war then in school, and the women spent more time doing chores and farm work then in the classroom. I believe this is why they had a hard time living or becoming successful. I don’t think the Chandler family would have survived without education in today’s society. The Chandlers were a nice family. Luke was the narrator of the story and he lived with is parents and grandparents on a farm in the 1950’s. Mexicans also stayed on the farm with them in the barn.

In opinion education was not a big focus at all in the story A Painted House. The Chandler family focused primarily on many other things. They focused more on things like their farm and wars then getting an education. Luke’s grandfather was in WW1 and his father was in WW2. His uncle Ricky was in the Korean War during the time of this story. I don’t think they would have survived in today’s so

Below are additional random excerpts from the paper...

The Chandlers had a very poor choice of land so every year their crops got damaged. The Chandlers farmland was damaged every year by rain so they never could get enough goods to sell and break even. I don’t an educated family would make that mistake. I guess if first you don’t succeed you must try again. I guess Luke’s grandparents really liked the house they were staying, but I think anyone wise would have known to move away from that bad land a long time ago. Which Luke’s mother and father eventually decided to do at the end of the novel. The land was so bad were they were at that Latchers house were flooded out. The Chandlers were nice enough to let them stay in the barn were the Mexicans stayed. Even though the Chandlers made many bad decisions throughout the story they weren’t the only people that were uneducated in the novel.

The Chandlers were a family of farmers who were struggling to break even. The Chandlers had many debts to pay off. Luke was the youngest in the family and knew they were in debt. He even mentioned it himself in the story when he said, “But, like most farmers, Pappy and my father carried debt from the previous year (15).” They owed a lot of money to many different people. I think if they all would have went to school and learned more they would be in a much better position then they were in at that time. If they had a good education they probably would have been on top rather then struggling. I know their family was not as poor as others because back then the military did look out a little. They wouldn’t even have the military help in today’s society without an education. Money plays a very big role in business in toda
