Parables

And he said, A certain man had two sons: And the younger of them said to his father, Father, give me the portion of goods that falleth to me. And he divided unto them his living. And not many days after the younger son gathered all together, and took his journey into a far country, and there wasted his substance with riotous living. And when he had spent all, there arose a mighty famine in that land; and he began to be in want. And he went and joined himself to a citizen of that country; and he sent him into his fields to feed swine. And he would fain have filled his belly with the husks that the swine did eat: and no man gave unto him. And when he came to himself, he said, How many hired servants of my father's have bread enough and to spare, and I perish with hunger!I will arise and go to my father, and will say unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and before thee, And am no more worthy to be called thy son: make me as one of thy hired servants. And he arose, and came to his father. But when he was yet a great way off, his father saw him, and had compassion, and ran, and fell on his neck, and kissed him. And the son said unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and in thy sight, and am no more worthy to be calle

I feel closer to God from this experience. I really know that God will always be there for me and not judge me for anything I’ve done. I also know now that I’m lucky to live the life I have and I can’t abuse this gift. God loves me very much and I must show the same affection towards him and everyone else around me. This experience made me realize good things are all around me and to not take advantage of them. Also, not to give up hope when things go bad because something good can come of them if you keep believing.

From reading this parable, I was able to relate it to my own life. Just as the son went to his father, I go to God when I need to ask for forgiveness, or help in life. I know he will always be there for me and he means a lot to me. I look up to God, like how the son looks up to him father. I can also relate this to the lessons we learned from this parable. In my life, I sometimes want more than what I have and I realize that I’m actually blessed with everything I’ve got. I have a happy and grateful life, especially compared to some people and I know now not to take it for granted. The father can also be related to me because, like him I sometimes give up hope and I need to remember to keep believing in something even if it’s not in front of me.

This parable, the Prodigal’s son, has given me a better understanding of my faith and I know more about my relationship with God. I went inside the character’s thoughts and knew what they were feeling. This parable has taught me lessons and given me thoughts to think about that I haven’t before. I also have a deeper understanding for God, and I will take this with me forever.

Jesus wants us to learn that we should ask God for forgiveness and we should happy and satisfied with what we have in life. Just as the son went to his father to ask for forgiveness, we can always go to God when we do something wrong. When we know what we did wrong, God will always be there for us and take us back in. Also, Jesus wants us to learn that we never should want more in our life than what we have. The son wanted to be out on his own and he ended up being treated worse than how his father treats his own workers. To his father, the two sons meant the world to him and in our life that’s what we mean to God, so we must not break any covenant with God.
