Perfect Hand
Anyone who has ever gambled knows that the house (casino) is established to make money. But once in a while there is the possibility that the house loses and the player walks away with more money than they brought. This is point that Danny Ocean (George Clooney) tries to make to his friend Rusty (Brad Pitt), in the remake of the Rat-Pack classic Ocean’s Eleven. The theme of the movie is revealed early on when Rusty wants to know why Danny wants to rob the vault of the most prestigious casino is Las Vegas. Danny responds, “Because the house always wins. If you play long enough and you never change the stakes, the house takes you. But when that perfect hand comes along, and you bet big, you take the house.” This statement is the theme of the film as a whole but there are several other small themes throughout the picture. Ocean’s Eleven opens with a man we shortly find out is Danny Ocean in prison at his parole hearing. After his release from incarceration he assembles a crew of eleven men including himself with the aspirations of robbing the Bellagio Hotel and Casino, the most glamorous and most expensive of the Las Vegas Strip. Terry Benedict (Andy Garcia) plays the hotel owner. A diligent business man

A Black Jack dealer in an Atlantic City Casino, he changed his name so that he could work in the casino because casinos do not hire convicted felons. Next on Danny’s list is Rusty, his closest friend and advisor. Rusty is working illegally for cash teaching young movie stars how to play poker. He is incredibly bored of what he is doing and at times gets frustrated with his pupils. The financial support for the crew is Ruben Elliot Gould). Ruben is a former casino owner that also has a vendetta against Terry. Terry “muscled” Ruben out of his casino ownership. The “Mormon” twins are the next to be introduced to the crew. Never seen apart, Turk (Scott Cann) and Virgil (Casey Affleck) are introduced together and doing what they do best, arguing and driving. They are hired to play several roles as deliverers or drivers. Every casino has high video security and Livingston (Edward Jemison) is that man that is recruited to watch everything that the casino security watches. Livingston has noticeably bad nerves that almost gets him caught. Basher (Don Cheadle) is the man that can make anything blow up and cause confusion. He is first introduced in a busted bank robbery where it is obvious that he has done all the work himself. He sp
