Comp Sci field trip
Going to UTD was a wonderful experience that I will never forget. I learned so much about the school, its facilities, and its classes. Not only did I learn about the school but also about the students who attend it as well. The trip was well worth missing one day of school and the story is a memorable one. Arriving at school that Friday, as I do every weekday, I went to my 5th period class for roughly 45 minutes. From there I went to F123 (Bakerland) to wait for the bus. Once it came we boarded, off to the University of Texas at Dallas. The destination in particular was UTD extensive and very impressive Engineering and Computer Science Department. After, it seemed, a century before we finally got there. Our first stop was the foyer of the "old" engineering building. After meeting with the Assistant Dean we headed over to the new building where we sat in a brand new room. There, a gentlemanly Englishmen lectured to us on possible undergrad degrees we could choose and classes we had to take for them. The four possible BS degrees you could receive were EE (Electrical Engineering), TE (Telecommunications Enginee
We felt overwhelmed by all that we had seen, done, and learned in those few short hours. The guides were very helpful and friendly and the professors and Ass. Dean were very informative. I seems that they have a very good engineering and computer science program that I might want to attend in the future. It actually felt for a moment that we were college students on our way between classes visiting the campus. It was truly fun and extraordinary! In the classroom we were met by a very enthusiastic and spirited grad student whose dream was to create an assortment of programs and team of robots to compete in the World by 2050. He showed us the progress they have made and what's current with RoboCup, the current competition where robots compete in soccer games. After that we were split into three groups and assigned to a student/guide. The guys took us around the campus and showed the highlights of the university, including a non-alcoholic but quite cool bar called The Pub. We also got shown the Comet's (mascot of UTD) cafeteria and a bunch of classrooms and labs. We did some wandering around for awhile and then we got t
