In John Keats’ “Ode to a Nightingale”, the central theme is when a man wishes he had the strong music beauty of the singing nightingale with out the wine, which creates a sense of loss. In the early stages of this poem the man falls into a reverie while listening to a nightingale sing. He begins by having feelings of both joy and pain. He states “Tasting of Flora and the country green, Dance and Provencal song, and sunburnt mirth.” (Pg. 605) In this stanza he describes the country as green, giving it character and a sense of beauty. If he had described the country as brown or yellow there might have been a different effect on the reader. He associates dance with song, which together produce pleasure or otherwise noted in this poem as “mirth”. During this stanza he is in his imaginary world.

In the third stanza his awareness of the real world pulls him back from the imagined world of drink-joy that he was in. He feels that beauty cannot keep its lustrous tone without his world of vintage.

He continues to sit in darkness in the fifth stanza, which makes the man rely on his, other senses. He speaks of the nightingale singing of summer, and the progression of the seasons. He might have chosen spring to summer to show a new beginning rather then fall to winter, which would incur death and decay.

Alexander Solzhenitsyn “Matroyna’s Home”

In Matroyna’s Home the theme is portrayed when a man seeks odd values and finds it not government or people but in a single old woman.

The theme portrayed in “ Death Constant Beyond Love” is about a man fighting his death in solitude, while also seeking love. Senator Onesimo Sanchez finds out that he only has “six months and eleven days to live”, but when he finds out he chooses not to tell anyone and experience it on his own. He portrays himself the same way before he found out about his illness, preaching and filling everyone’s head with great things to come. He sells himself for everyone saw on the outside, but what everyone didn’t know that on the inside he was withering away. Senator Sanchez spent his entire life in a lie, even when he found what he claimed the first true thing that mattered to him, Laura, he still could not be spared the inevitable. He didn’t want to face death alone, but he also didn’t want anyone to know what was happening to him.

Gabriel Garcia Marquez “Death Constant Beyond Love”

In conclusion this takes presence in his poetry because he feels that he has encountered nature at its happiest moments and in its despair. In more then one way he feels as if he is one with nature. I also feel that the boy learns about death and loneliness through nature. The contemplation of death allows for one to move beyond oneself to consider it as a whole. In the end the bird is insignificant in the face of death, which is the concept of this poem.

It took him up till then to realize that Matroyna had old values. She didn’t have a pig like everyone else in town. She didn’t feel the need to feed something three times a day just to cut its throat months later. She didn’t worry about fancy clothes or new things. She was a women content with what she had. She was good hearted and kind.
