Political Discussion

For my political discussion I thought the best place to start my discussion would be in my study hall session. I talked with two of my academic counselors and one academic advisor assistant. Dr. Monk is one of the counselors; she is a white woman in her fifties. She is Episcopalian and a democrat. Shelia my other counselor is a white woman in her early thirties. She is catholic and a republican. Wesley is an academic counselor assistant; he is a black male in his early twenties. He is Baptist and a democrat. The questions that I used to start the discussion were, do you support president Bush? What are your feelings about the war on Iraq? And finally, what do you think about Bush compared to Bill Clinton?

In response to my First Question, Do you support president Bush? I received mixed opinions. Dr. Monk said that she supports Bush, because she feels it’s the right thing to do since he was elected into office. But, she also feels that he can be criticized. She says that she does not agree with his stand on abortion. She does not think the government should have any say so over someone’s choice of abortio

My second question was simple but raised three different opinions. I asked what are your feelings about the war on Iraq? Dr. Monk said that she believes the war is all about power and money, because if we win the only thing the U.S. will gain is power over Iraq and the assets creating more money for America. Sheila believes that the war is supposed to help stop future terrorist attacks on the U.S. Wesley says that he thinks the war is simply the U.S. wanting to control all the oil in Iraq.

Next I asked how do you feel about Bush compared to Bill Clinton? Dr. Monk had some strong feelings about Clinton and his Monica Lewinski situation. She said that she far more prefers Bush to Clinton, because of morality. She thinks Clinton is a liar and has lesser morals than Bush. She said she would rather have an admitted alcoholic as president than a liar as she states it. Sheila had somewhat the same opinion of Clinton as being a liar with little morals. Wesley felt like the U.S. was better under Clinton because he did more for the country than bush has done so far. He also felt like Clinton’s issues never affected his
