Organizational Behavior

The first observation that I had when I first walked into this class was how the room was situated. Unlike my other classes where the desks are in straight rows facing the professor and the board, this classroom was positioned in a circle. The class was able to communicate and interact with each other more effectively. There was a central focus on Professor Arnold. The forum of all our discussions was centered between the professor and the class. Having a passionate leader who exemplifies strong organizational skills is an important factor in learning about organizational behavior. This often requires sufficient communication and one’s excellent character.

The circle in which we are placed at the beginning of every class signifies a unity among the students as well as the professor. The class can easily and actively communicate and participate in the circle because it is evenly leveled. In other words, no one should feel inferior or superior as compared to someone else in the class. One of the major reasons that we are positioned in a circle is so that we succeed in understanding the concept of organizational behavior. This also requires team effort, which is definitely a key factor in moving forward in the job mar

It is also important to understand the role of diversity in organizational behavior. Diversity is intertwined with human behavior. We should always be respectful of others’ cultures and practices. This respect and tolerance for others can be positively reflected on learning from them as well as them learning from us. Professor Arnold exemplifies the qualities of a good leader because he is culturally aware and respectful.

Another important issue that was taken care of in the first class is the “active class participation” policy. The professor explained that “as a class, we are a collective team”. I believe that class participation not only includes raising our hands and providing answers, but also includes being attentive in class, taking notes, and asking questions. Ideally, professors encourage their students to participate in discussions in the class but not everyone is outspoken or bold. There are always some students who are very shy. I can use myself as an example of a shy student. I rarely raise my hand to answer questions, even if I know the correct answer. I have always tried to participate in my classes but I really cannot do anything about my shyness and nervousness when speaking in front of others. The reason I feel comfortable in this class is because I know that the professor is not setting a fixed percentage of my grade towards class participation.

I have learned a great deal about leadership just in the past few classes. A leader should be passionate and should reflect the values of the organization. I believe that the professor is extremely passionate about the class, which makes him an admirable leader. In organizing the class, the professor repeatedly gave out index cards to the class so that we can write down any questions, comments, or concerns we have. The professor c
