Proper Oral Health Care

Diet is one of the most important influences on oral health. There are many foods that cause damage to people’s teeth and they don’t even realize it. Plaque is the leading cause of periodontal disease. Everyone needs to be aware of the many periodontal diseases they are subject to receiving without proper oral health care. “Women who are pregnant and have a periodontal disease are seven times more likely to have a premature labor.”(Meow) A person should also make several visits to the dentist throughout the year. Everyone must use the proper oral health care products such as toothbrushes and dental floss. If the prevention of periodontal disease does not occur, painful treatment will be required for removal.

A way to ensure great oral health is to control the amount of sugar intake as well as how often it is in taken. Sugar contributes to tooth decay. By restricting consuming drinks with a lot of sugars to only at mealtime will help do this. “A consumer should also beware of hidden sugars in foods because it is used as a flavoring and preservative.”(Razak) Foods that are high in sugar and carbohydrates are bad because they tend to give bacteria energy to produce and create enamel-eating

I can conclude that periodontal disease is always going to be a problem if not taken care of correctly. Periodontal disease affects many people. Pregnant women are the ones who are affected most by it. If everyone uses the proper oral health care products like a toothbrush and floss everyone will have perfect teeth. Don’t forget to visit the dentist at least twice a year so he can detect any major problems early. Everyone wants to have a beautiful smile and if they maintain good oral health they will have a beautiful smile.

I n order to have great oral health a person must brush his teeth. A person must brush his teeth at least twice a day to remove bacteria that can form into plaque and eventually cause tooth decay. A person may brush his teeth more than twice if he wishes there is absolutely nothing wrong with this. Brushing people’s teeth after meals and snacks removes plaque and produces a clean, healthy mouth, fresh breath and a beautiful smile. It also reduces the risk of cavities. Tooth brushing is the most common mechanical method used to remove plaque. “The average person removes about only fifty percent of the plaque present.”(Cochran) The correct toothbrush to use is a soft bristle toothbrush because a hard bristle can hurt a person’s gum. A toothbrush that is used properly needs to be replaced every three months. Using a fluoride toothpaste can also help because it slows down the breakdown of enamel that is caused by acids and plaque. In order to properly brush ones teeth he must brush his teeth for at least two full minutes. Don’t for get to brush your tongue and the roof of your mouth. By doing this you will remove bacteria and freshen up a persons breath. A person should hold his tooth brush at a forty-five degree angle. Aggressive brushing can wear away at a persons gum and make them sensitive.

Dental floss is the most constantly and widely recommended interdental cleaning aide. Various types of floss are available, ranging from waxed to unwaxed. Dental floss comes in different flavors and colors. “Studies show that eighteen percent of adults use floss regularly.”(Cochran) Some people think that flossing is not as important as brushing but it is just as important. Flossing daily removes plaque and food particles from between teeth and under the gum line. These are cavity prone areas because a toothbrush cannot
