Music is and art form that is sometimes forgotten or overlooked in today’s elementary schools. The education of music can change lives in profound magical ways. Music is not just for the best or most privileged students. It is unquestionably for every walk of life. Music is much more than just an extra activity for kids. Participation in such an art opens up children’s worlds and minds, and offers them the skills for a bright future. Recent studies have shown kids who study music do better in other subjects; as well as score higher on standardized test, stay out of trouble and are more likely to go onto college. The achievement of reading and writing in early childhood depends on a solid background in oral language skills. To gain knowledge and confidence in oral language, music is used. Oral language is an interactive and social process. Music is a natural way for children to experience vocabulary and language in a pleasurable way. Young children seem to be naturally "wired" for sound and rhythm. Besides providing enjoyment, music can play an important role in language and literacy development. Strong social bonds are encouraged through music and songs beginning in preschool. Toddlers can begin to experiment with grammatical rules and various rhyming patterns in songs and other written text.
