Pro Legalization Of Marijuana
I choose to discuss the positive aspects to the legalization of marijuana in America. As with prohibition, if every hard working, bill-paying citizen wants to be involved with an activity, the laws have to be eventually changed to accommodate that. After all, this is a government for the people by the people. To debar the individuals right to choose comes up again, and again. I believe the government has no valid reason to outlaw possession, consummation, or distribution of a plant, let alone one as seemingly harmless as marijuana. The topic of marijuana, is one that has been tiptoed around since the “reefer madness” disease swept across mainstream America in the late 1930’s. All of which was the brainchild of two men: Harry Anslinger, the head of the Federal Bureau of Narcotics at the time and who happened to be related to someone on the board of Dupont, and William Randolph Hearst, who owned a few large newspaper companies. Both of whom are said to be paid off by Dupont, who was very big in the wood-pulp paper industry, and would profit heavily from hemp being outlawed. So, between the two of them, they whipped up a batch of ‘yellow journalism’, which spread “propaganda that African-Americ
As we continue to deplete our limited supply of fossil fuels, we are beginning to look towards alternate fuel sources to run our future machines. Based upon the evidence I’ve found, I say that there is nothing better than cannabis. True, it would cost billions to re-tool our industries to accept the production of hemp, but as any good businessman knows, you have to spend money to make money. “Hemp is the fastest growing biomass on earth. Biomass can be converted to methane, methanol or gasoline at a fraction of the cost of oil, coal, or nuclear energy.”(Herer, 1985.) The oil from the seeds can be made into a high quality lubricant that could possibly replace petrol oils completely. In fact, “if we were to farm only six percent of the country’s farmland with hemp, we could meet all the country’s Industrial energy and transportation needs.”(The Emperor Wears No Clothes) Unfortunately, it will be a difficult contender because the government will probably not want to be at all associated with marijuana, even if it were the cure for cancer. The downside to all this is that the government could never control the distribution from local sellers. And everyone knows how much the government hates any kind of competition, so therefore would never and could never get involved with it. The problem with marijuana is that it can be grown in almost any temperature, and in almost every type of soil, with practically no maintenance whatsoever. After all it
