Theodore Roosevelt appealed greatly to the American nation. He was an all-around polyvalent man, “ a Nobel prizewinner, a physical culturalist, a naval historian, a biographer, a paleontologist, a taxidermist, an ornithologist, a field naturalist, a conservationist, an editor, a critic, a civil service reformer, a former Governor of New York and the President of the United States” Roosevelt refused to believe that “there was anything finer than to be born an American” and this appealed to the public because it gave them a sense of importance and devotion that a president could have for his people. sevelt was determined to see that no “ Big Business” had a monopoly. “ All he wanted to establish was government’s right to regulate rampant entrepreneurship.” Roosevelt was a strong nationalist. He not only believed that the U.S. was on the brink of becoming a world power but also believed that it had the responsibility and duty to establish U.S. supremacy. Roosevelt’s interest in making the U.S. a world power and his involvement in the Spanish-American war distinguished him from the other presidents.

Also, Roosevelt’s distinction from other presidents can be seen in his belief for social justice. Roosevelt found the “ Constitution too rigid…Congress too rebellious” and felt that the President could take action in the general interest that “is not forbidden by the laws of the Constitution” He believed that his “big stick” rode before the Constitution. Furthermore, his belief for social justice can be noticed through his demand for “ Square Deal” for “ capital, labor and the public at large” His program consisted of three C’s: “ control of the corporations, consumer protection, and conservation of neutral resources” Consumer protection was of great interest to Roosevelt as he force Congress to acknowledge its responsibility as consumer protector by “ pushing through the Pure Food and Meat Inspection laws of 1906” Theodore Roosevelt proved a great sense of loyalty and care towards his people demonstrating his interest in not only the public but also in their protect!
