Alcohol Abuse In Palmetto

Most college students drink for the same reasons undergraduates have always turned to alcohol. Students drink usually because they are away from home, often for the first time, many are both excited by their newfound independence, and to fit in socially. Students may be especially vulnerable to dangerous drinking in their freshman year as they struggle to adapt to new world because of stress or competitive academic environments.

Students in the Palmetto North and South apartments filled out a survey about their attitudes toward alcohol beverages. 75% of the residents in Palmetto admitted that they have drunk at least one alcohol beverage this month. Most students are binge drinkers. A binge drinker consists of having five or more drinks at a single sitting for a man and four drinks at a single sitting for a woman. Binge drinking is most common among you men, especially those who are single, separated, or divorced, who drink beer, or who concentrate most of the drinking on weekends (Hales 522).

Most of the residents who drink are underage drinkers and drink for a stress reliever. On the survey a question asked the participant if he/she knows the consequences of drinking alcohol. All most

This survey was to determine the alcohol habits and attitudes toward drinking of FAMU college students in Palmetto north and south. Some of the students do not care about their safety and the consequences of drinking alcohol. Alcohol is serious and needs to be taken seriously by underage drinkers.
