Rankine Cycle
(Prepared on the Partial fulfillment of the requirement of the course Thermal Science “MEC 189.2”)This is the term paper on the application of Rankine cycle in steam power plants, improved efficiency presented by PRABIN SHARMA.This term paper provides good knowledge of Rankine cycle. In this term paper, I have compared Rankine cycle with Carnot cycle, I have given the idea of the application of Rankine cycle in steam power plants and the methods to increase the efficiency of the Rankine cycle. As Rankine cycle is simply a hypothesis, all the matters presented here are based on theory only. Since this is Mine first term paper, there might be errors and mistakes which we hope the readers will inform me about. I would like to my sincere thanks to My honorable and respected teacher Mr. Yogesh Raj for giving me good guidance in the completion of this term paper. I would also like to thank our friends, seniors and those who directly and indirectly given me their outstanding help and precious guidance. Eventually i like to say that this term paper has boardened mine knowledge on the related topic and i hope this term paper will be a good reference for the fellow students who will do their term paper work on Rankine
c) For a Rankine cycle when the expansion process has an isentropically of 80%. REASONS FOR THE INEFFICIENCY OF THE RANKINE CYCLE At the end of the expansion process (state 4), low pressure but fairly high quality vapor leaves the turbine. The vapor is then condensed to a liquid as the vapor comes to contact with surfaces in the condenser that are cooled usually by a cold water stream because the condenser operates near the temperature of cooling water, the condensation process occurs at temperature well below the normal (atmospheric) boiling point of most working fluid. And the condenser pressure on the working fluid side is therefore often sub-atmospheric. The liquid leaves the condenser at state 5. Following condensation, the liquid enters a pump. The working fluid is returned to the high pressure necessary for energy addition at the higher boiler temperature and the cycle is repeated.
