Grigory Rasputin is without a question one of the most scandalous figures in Russian history. He is known to have strange powers and a mysterious influence over others, with his eyes that change colors when he spoke. Nobody had power over him except he had control over everyone around him. He gained a close relationship with Nicholas II, and his wife Alexandra and became the most influential man in the government. He gained power over the royal family, especially Alexandra through mysterious ability to stop Alexis, the inheritor of the throne, from bleeding because the boy suffered from hemophilia. Rasputin could heal when the top medical professors could not, and that made everyone believe Rasputin was sent from God. Rasputin’s mysterious healing built a close relationship with the royal family and especially Alexandra, and made powerful enemies outside the palace. Rasputin was born in the Tyumen district of Syberia, in the late 1800’s. Nobody knows his real birth but historians believe that his birth was sometime between 1864 and 1872. Rasputin as a young man was a complete rake. He drank and fought and tried every girl he met. Women always surrounded him because of his aggressiveness and mysterious charm towards them. Eventually, Rasputin went through a religious transition, traveling to the monastery at Verkhoture. After spending some time there and learning about the religion, he decided not to become a monk. This trip was his path to power and fame. After coming home, at the age of 19, Rasputin got married to Praskovia Fyoudorovna. They had three children, Dimitri, Maria and Varvara, but the marriage and kids did not settle Rasputin. He continued to wander, traveling to places of religious significance and claimed to be a holy man. Rasputin held the power to heal the sick, and predict the future. His fame grew far and wide, and soon people traveled from long distances in search of his insight and healing powers. In return for his services, people brought presents of food and money. Also, Rasputin took up farming to support his family. One day while working, he thought he saw a vision and declared that he had been ordered to make a difference is someone’s life. ople around the village admired him, his deep burning eyes, the powerful deep voice which made him compelling preacher. He presented himself as a humble poor man, who has had a great amount of sins, but forgiven and commended to do a lot of God’s work.
