In the movie “Pay it Forward”, a group of young students are given a rather challenging assignment. Mr. Simonet, a social studies teacher, tells each of his students that they can change the world and it is an ongoing assignment for the year. Most kids in the class were annoyed by such a strange idea, however a student by the name of Trevor decides that he will try and accomplish it. Trevor’s idea to change the world is called “pay it forward”. It involves one person doing a big favor for three other people, who then help another three people, and so on. Trevor decides that he will start by helping his friend, who has been being harassed my a few violent bullies at their school. Trevor is stabbed by a bully as he interferes with a fight between his friend and the bullies.
At first, Trevor was concerned with
Mr. Simonet’s assignment was a good way to teach a lesson about social studies. It was intended to get the children to think about the outside world. The assignment influenced Trevor to help people, but it was not the reason he was killed. Trevor’s decisions eventually led to him being stabbed, and therefore his death was a circumstantial tragedy.
Mr. Simonet is in no way responsible for the death, he was simply doing his job as a teacher. The assignment was a perfect way to get the children to think about how their actions effect the world. Trevor’s death showed that his caring attitude and positive actions were so strong that he was willing to die for his friend. The assignment brought out the best in Trevor and changed some lives along the way. “Pay it forward” really did change the world.
