Bertrande now barely 22 years of age, seemed relieved to be free of sexual intercourse, and despite urges from her family refused to separate from Martin. In her every day life Bertrande continued to perform he womanly duties, hoeing, trimming the vines, and cutting the grapes. a few artisans being a blacksmith, a shoemaker, and a dressmaker. Artigat geographically fell into the county of Foix, but the townspeople fell under the government of the Languedoc. A woman in Artigat has the particle “de” placed in front of there last names; this shows a classification system in the village society.
