Communication through phone, email, or in person has been enriched by the use of slang making conversation and writing much easier to understand (Hussaini). When getting down to the crux of the matter, slang is used all the time by college students in conversations between classes, on C.B.’s connecting truckers in 18-wheelers, in rap songs sung by the most well-known of rappers, and last but definitely not least, in e-mail writing. In an article by Arif Hussaini he mentions that men and women of great importance use slang openly and it becomes very difficult to make a distinction between literary or slang terms (Hussaini). “I

We have slang in America; it’s a common known fact. For hundreds of years English has been continuously changing. Words that would have never been spoken many years ago are now common in everyday conversation. The profane word “bitch” would have never been uttered in certain generations past, but today, it is used on television and in conversations among offspring and parents alike. “Viewed freely, the English language is the accretion and growth of every dialect, race and range of time, and is both the free and compacted composition of all. From this point of view it stands for Language in the largest sense, and it’s really the greatest of studies. It involves so much; is indeed a sort of universal absorber, combiner, and conqueror (Whitman 9, pars. 1-12).” The point he tries to make is that our language picks up new words with every person that is involved with the evolution of American English. Whitman talks about the use of slang in poems and songs, he sees slang as an indirection, an escape from the real world (9). “To make it plainer,” he says, “it is certain that many of the oldest and solidest words we use, were originally generated from the daring and license of slang (3).” English is a construction of many things, like happy times and sad ones of the generations before us; it is the great work of art of the people who speak it as a whole (3). Whitman believes that a lot of the words we use today are misunderstood. He says the word ‘prophecy’ originally meant to bubble up and pour forth like a fountain, but in our American slang it has to do with religion and God (3). Whitman contends that Geological knowledge has a lot to do with the skill of language; it has an evolution or beginning period, it has its fossils, or words not used anymore, and it has numerous layers and hidden caves. It also might be like an immense existing body. Breathing into its gasp of existence are the believers, mind’s eye, and humor (11).

Many people know that English has a brand of being relaxed and that it is a lingo of a laid-back people (Hussaini). It makes sense to use slang to improve our English. Slang helps us simplify an overall diverse language. Slanguage, as some may call it, makes contact through telephone conversations, email, or talking in person much easier to comprehend through its continuous change. As in any
