Selena lived in Lake Jackson for the early part of her childhood, Abraham, her father worked for Dow Chemical as a shipping clerk. He really liked music, and had a small band called Los Dinos, meaning The Boys, that consisted of his friends from high school. He liked Corner Street Do-wop; but Los Dinos played Tex-mex music, which is polkas and waltzes with Spanish music. Abraham was the singer in the band. He had said early on that Selena had gotten his singing talent from him. When Selena’s father first realized she indeed had talent, she was five years old. “She would always walk around the house singing and her voice had a perfect pitch, “ exclaimed Abraham.

Soon, she had many fans, a majority of them located in southern Texas. One of her fans was a nurse named Yolanda Saldivar. Yolanda began calling Abraham in early 1991. She wanted to form a fan club for Selena. Abraham didn’t want to talk to Yolanda to start with, he wasn’t sure about the idea of a fan club. Then, the family decided that a fan club would have a positive outcome because it might attract more fans. So Abraham contacted Yolanda, who lived in San Antonio. Yolanda was a very quiet person. She didn’t have a husband or any children, not even any friends. She was a loner who worked at a hospital.

Selena met Chris Perez in 1988 in San Antonio. He joined Selena y Los Dinos as a guitar player. For two years Selena and Chris traveled as friends, but then one day, A.B. told Chris that Selena was interested in becoming more than friends. Chris soon realized that his feelings for Selena were deep too. So Chris told Selena how he felt one day in a Pizza Hut. Selena and Chris dated, and then on April 2, 1992, they were married.

Selena Quintanilla Perez was becoming increasingly popular and in 1991, the band produced many hit records, won a Grammy, made concert and night club appearances, made product endorsements, as well as two boutiques, and then a fan club.

On April 3, 1995, Selena Quintanilla Perez was buried in Corpus Christi. More than 30,000 people walked by Selena’s casket to pay their respects. Selena was more than just a singer, she was a beautiful person and everyone loved her.
